Washington Street UMC
Choirs

Washington Street Church has long had a history of fine music for worship, concerts and other settings. This tradition is further being upheld through various musical offerings for all levels of musicianship. We are committed to “music for all” and encourage anyone with particular interests to come forth and offer your talents. There is always room for extra strengths that may not be apparent in our program offerings!

Our goal here at Washington Street Church is not for the mere performance of music, but offering up our gifts to God. In addition to our musical offerings for worship, Christian fellowship is perhaps why many do choose to be part of this ministry. The combination of our love for music and for sharing it with each other helps us to make worship even more meaningful for all. The common saying “He who sings, prays twice” always leads me to rephrase it when thinking of our choir -- “Those who sing together, pray and play together”.

Please consider whether you would like to be part of this valuable ministry and Christian community. Call me at the church 703-836-4324, email me or stop by after the postlude to say hi and share your interests. I look forward to meeting you!

Soli Deo Gloria,

Victoria Shields, Minister of Music

Chancel Choir

Chancel Choir rehearses Thursdays, 7:30-9:15 p.m. through May. This choir is for high schoolers through adults who enjoy singing a traditional repertoire. This choir sings on Sunday mornings at the 11 a.m. service.

Children's Choirs

Children's music is offered for ages 3 through grade 6. They learn the fundamentals for music making as well as learning about God through His gift of music.

Voices of Praise

Voices of Praise rehearsals will resume in the fall. This group is for children in grades 4 and up. This year the group will be doing lots of cool instrumental music. So, if your child doesn’t like to sing, this will be a great opportunity to participate in music and worship!

Small Blessings

Small Blessings is a choir for preschoolers through 3rd graders. Small Blessings sings for the congregation periodically through the year and rehearsals are set a few weeks before those dates.

Small Blessings will resume rehearsals in the fall.

The Chancel Bell Choir

Chancel Handbell Choir practive on Wednesday evenings during the TOW programming from 7:30-8:30 p.m. This group is made up of older elementary students through adults. Come join us for dinner at TOW and ringing God’s music after!

"Come as You Are" Musicians

The 9:00 "Come as You Are" service encourages any who have a musical talent or interest in leading worship. You can be a singer or an instrumentalist or someone with a special talent which we haven't even thought of! We gather at 8:20 a.m. on Sunday mornings to prepare music for the 9 a.m. service, in addition to self-preparation during the week. It is very "Come as You Are", so please join us!

WSUMC Musical Events

This year we will be presenting a variety of opportunities for us and the Alexandria area to gather together in our sanctuary to share in God's gift of music. From the Old Town Sings, to handbells, chamber music and soloists, there is something for everyone. Most important, it is a way for us to open our doors to the music loving public and share our sacred space with them. Volunteers are needed for publicity, ushering, sanctuary set up and clean up as well as preparing receptions for us all to gather and share in fellowship with one another. If you have a talent not listed here, we can always find a way for you to contribute!
