In Worship...
Children learn reverence by watching and worshiping with respected youth and adults, and they teach us authentic awe and wonder as they worship. Morning rituals include “Children’s Time” with our Director of Christian Education, an informal conversation or storybook on faith issues.
Children may stay to participate in the full worship service or after "Children’s Time" they may leave with our wonderful volunteers to attend Children’s Church. Bible stories and other positive, educational activities await your children! Our caring nursery staff offer care for infants to age 3 for both morning worship services.
Children up to 5th grade will meet in the Chapel after Children’s Time every 2nd Sunday (unless otherwise noted). They will be part of a worship experience created just for them! The youngest children will then leave for the Toddler Room while the others continue their experience.
CHILDREN’S BULLETINS
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the Kingdom of God belongs.” When you arrive to worship at Washington Street, you will be offered not only adult bulletins, but also bulletins for your children. We have two versions of children's bulletins available (ages 3-6 and 7-12 respectively) which are designed to help children follow the bible lesson for the day in understandable and fun ways.
WORHIP KITS
“Worship Kits” for children are available as you enter the Sanctuary, including drawing paper, a seasonal storybook, and activities to take home.
ASSISTING IN WORSHIP
At times, children and youth help lead worship as readers, greeters, or through a choir or musical ensemble.
For further information about children in worship, please pick up the brochure titled "Children in the Worshiping Community" from the back pew basket. Please contact Rachel Miller with any questions at (703) 836-4324.
**T.U.G.- Three years old and Under Group**
This new ministry is targeted at expecting families and families with infants and toddlers, through age three. This group is being created to support families through the huge transition in their lives of welcoming new family members, whether this is your first or just the newest of many. We will offer Christian love, support, activities and a safe place for you and your children. If you are expecting brand new family members or have welcomed some in the past three years, but have not received information regarding TUG, please sign up by email and we'll add you to the contact list. Thanks!
CHILDREN'S LIBRARY
Wouldn’t it be nice to spend an afternoon cuddled with your kids and looking at books? This is a reminder that WSUMC has a wonderful Children’s Library! We recently added some great books for young children and teens. The Lillian Wolford Memorial Children’s Library is in Room 111 of the Education Building. It is open whenever the church is open, however, this space is shared with the WSUMC Pre-School so please be courteous of their schedule during the school year and respectful of their items. We always welcome donations of new or slightly loved books for infants, children and teens!
